Tiktokers, The new teen idols
Life is what happens on social networks. Or at least, for many of the people who belong to Generation Z (born between 1994 and 2009, a total of more than 2 billion individuals worldwide) and who relate to screens natively. Their universe has nothing to do with what their parents had at their age, and that has changed the social dynamics.
Music has always been an identifying element for teenagers. Entering puberty means starting the search for one’s own identity, disassociating oneself from the influences they have had at home, and sometimes even rebelling against the established. Let’s remember that being a fan of Elvis Presley or the Beatles cost more than one upset in many families because, in those times, they were considered too transgressive artists.
We are in 2019 and, obviously, the idols of 60 years ago are not the same as those of today. Neither they nor the platforms from which they arise. The TikTok phenomenon has led to hundreds of anonymous young people acquiring idol status by making videos with background music. Let’s buy tiktok fans the most prominent ones in our country.
TikTok, the worldwide pre-teen revolution
When Musical.ly appeared as an application, no one could imagine the dimensions it would take. Today, after merging with its competitor TikTok (finally keeping the name), the app has more than 500 million active users. Most of them are under 20 years old, although the legal age to use it is 13.
TikTok is very easy to use. It’s all about making short, 15-second videos, synchronizing your lips with the song of your choice. The theme is accelerated in terms of tempo, and the choreography, effects, filters and stickers, among other elements, make up the final image of the tiktok in question. Come on, it has all the ingredients to hook the youngest ones. All you need is a mobile phone and internet to record them.
Its impact on children and young people has meant that, little by little, some users have become great figures in networks. We are talking about the most popular tiktokers on the internet or the musers, as they are also called by their followers as a legacy of Musical.ly. The phenomenon is global, but in Spain we have some reference names that not only succeed in our country, but have crossed borders with their music videos.
Emilio and Iván Martínez, the Martínez Twins
Born in Granollers (Barcelona), Emilio and Iván Martinez are twins who break it in Tik Tok. Together, the Martinez Twins (@martineztwins) have over 12 million followers in the app where they upload videos of humor and playbacks in which they dance. However, clowning is their forte.
His success on the net brought him into contact with youtuber Jake Paul, one of the great figures of humorous content on the net, and from there his fame took off for the United States. The Martinez Twins, who are 19, moved to Los Angeles in 2017 to make a name for themselves in Hollywood.
“Our first goal is a film about our history. That’s what we’re learning English for. Little by little,” Iván explained to EFE. “Getting higher and doing things in a more professional way. We are very interested in doing television,” said Emilio. Good luck, guys!
Antonio Garcia, MrAnto on the web
Antonio is a young man of 22 years old born in Almeria who succeeds on the internet thanks to the videos he started making in the Musical.ly era under the name of MrAnto (@mranto). His playbacks, always accompanied by his best friend Regina, have evolved into more elaborate videos where he also plays jokes, challenges and performs humorous sketches. In TikTok he is followed by more than 1.7 million people.
The difference is that now, the one who accompanies her in her videos is Cristian Gámez (@cgl02), her boyfriend. He is another muser who is about to come of age and who, in addition to being a big hit on the net, has just published his first book “Manual para ser tú mismo” (Destiny).
